The Ethnological Museum of Thrace is a Non – Profit Organization that has been open since 2002, with the purpose of preserving the historical memory of Thrace as well as studying and showcasing Thrace\u2019s culture to the rest of the world. Based in Alexandroupolis in a stone neo-classical building constructed in 1899<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

Also worth a visit is the Mikri Doksipara – Zoni tumulus. It is one of the largest burial mounds in the region and was built gradually in the early 2nd century AD in the western part of the region of northern Evros, between the villages of Mikri Doksipara, Zoni and Helidona. A natural rise in the ground was chosen as the site on which it was to be created, so that the tumulus would be visible from far. It is 60 metres in diameter and has a height of 7.5 metres. It was built to preserve in time the memory of four members of a wealthy family of land owners who died and were buried one after the other.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

The Archaeological Museum of Alexandroupolis is a public museum under the responsibility of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Evros, a regional service of the Ministry of Culture & Sports. <\/span>Its permanent exhibition includes archaeological finds from the area of \u200b\u200bEvros, that date back from prehistoric to Roman times, and it is divided into three major thematic sections: the coastal zone, the hinterland and the burial mounds of the Evros plain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n
